I will be appearing with Lindy Romez & Sol Y Mar at the beautifully unique Eddie Rose Amphitheatre in Altamonte.FL on Sat., Feb 18th at 10:15 AM for the 2012 Uptown Art Expo.

For the past 7 years the Expo was located in Downtown Orlando along Lake Eola Park. This year the expo is moving Uptown! Visible from I-4 in Central Florida, Beautiful Cranes Roost Park is at the heart of Uptown Altamonte surrounded by Cranes Roost Lake. The Expo’s new event location will offer our visitors an exciting, beautiful festival setting and exposure to Central Florida’s finest artist and musicians.

I would like to thank all of you who came out to the 3rd Annual De Soto National Memorial Luminary Walk last night in Bradenton,FL. The event was a succes as a gathering of visitors (2000+,approx) strolled the candle lit pathways of the park.There was food,historical re-enactors,and music.
I was able to record my entire performance and will be sifting through almost 3 hours of files. As soon as I get them cleaned up,I will post them here.
Thank you to Head Park Rangers Scott Pardue and all of his amazing rangers for all their hard work and efforts. A special thank you to Jorge and Ben who were on top of things,making sure the audio and staging was just right.
In it's 3rd year,The De Soto Luminary Walk is getting better and better. Form 2009's event which featured 1 musician (myself) to this year's roster which included a guitar quartet,a solo violinist,and a small string orchestra,it is evident that Scott and his team are passionate about community outreach and educating visitors with Florida's rich history.

"It's Alive!" Project

Get ready for the 2nd Annual Dias De Los Muertos And Monster Factory Exhibition!

This year local and national artists where invited to interpet their own vision of Boris Karloff as Frankenstein's Monster. 80 busts were handed out and each artist was given free reign to bring to life their own interpretation of one of horror films most iconic characters. The busts will be on display at the City Arts Factory in downtown Orlando and sales of the busts will benefit the St Jude
Children's Research Hospital.

The exhibit will be opening on Thursday, October 20, 2011 and showing until Saturday, November 11, 2011

Admission to the public is Free..

The simultaneous exhibitions will feature the artwork & murals of both local and international artists in the theme of Dia de los muertos and Monsters (Halloween).

Opening night will include:

- "'Till Death do us part” : a Dia de los Muertos Wedding of Abdias Ernesto Garcia & Carolina Suarez-Garcia
- Sugar Skull procession on Pine St
- LIVE Music provided by Tacatantan! Records

I had a blast both recording for the album and being a part of the video.It was a long day of just doing the band shots..but I know that Ñeco and the fine crew at Advanced Audio put in even more hours of filming and post production work.

Back in Jan/Feb of 2011 I went into the Advanced Audio Recording Studios with Jose Nazario at the helm to record with a young man by the name of Ramon Goveo Reyes. Ramon is a singer/songwriter/musician with a penchant for great pop rock.His sound is new and fresh...reminiscent of Coldplay,Phil Wickham,Jeremy Camp,and others. What a weekend!!!!!

The Shut Up & Play Festival has come and gone and with it great friends were made,amazing music was heard,and an incredible time was had by those who attended and participated. Jeremy and Lynn Birdsall did a bang up job putting the roster together while stage manager Jim Furlong kept things running smoothly.Sound-man and lighting tech Herb Palmer kept thing lively on Stage Two while JUpiter Groove guitarist Dan RodZ ran sound and lights for Stage One as well as play over on Stage Two.We had some great interns show up to help out with everything as well.
Over on Stage Three we had more of a laid back feel with a jazz and blues vibe happening where folks tended to go to relax and chill.It was cabaret seating and the vibe was chillin'.
I got to jam with Dominic Gaudious for his set.He invited drummer Ralph Grey and percussionist Johnny "5" Sepulveda and myself on stage for a raucous Arabian inspired jam! It was intense and the crowd seemed to enjoy it.
Lyndy Romez & Sol Y Mar hit the stage at 3:30 and performed her trumpet based smooth Nu-Jazz to an early festival crowd.We really got to flex our musical muscles as Lindy gave each one of us a chance to shine.
Jupiter Groove hit the stage at about 5:30 pm.We ripped through 5 tunes from our debut CD. Definitely the heaviest group of the day! Ralph Grey from Sol Y Mar sat in with us.Marty will be back behind the skins real soon folks,don't worry! Dan RodZ ripped up the fret board once again bringing down the metal,fusion,and blues rain on his Parker Fly...
So...the big event for me (aside from catching Regi Wooten and Dave Larue Trio) was performing with my old band mate Reed Hayes and Jeremy Birdsall. Birdsall/Leõn/Hayes is an idea that Jeremy and I have had for many years now.An experimental improvisational group using Chapman Stick,keys,bass,guitar,percussion,whatever! When we 1st decided to debut the project at this years event,we thought about adding a drummer.Enter Reed Hayes..the perfect fit for such an ambitious outing.We were blown away at the music and mood that we produced! The crowd got into the 2-15 minute pieces.The 1st consisted of Jeremy on Stick and keys,Reed on his downsized but bigger than ever sounding set,and me on octave bass (my Ibanez BTB tuned DADG using the octave strings from an 8 string bass set).We created a moody piece with ambient undertones that weaved in and out of serenity and chaos. For the second piece I switched to Stick. We laid down a mean groove and let Reed propel the music along as he switched tempos and time signatures..whew!!! It was a ride for both band and audience! A union long over due but totally worth the wait.

Jupiter Groove is set to release their debut CD simply titled "Jupiter Groove". The album offers studio tracks,alternate takes,live tracks,and a few surprises!
We headed to Gibsonton,FL. last year to record at Jeff Knauff's Parsonage Studios. Jeff did a fantastic job of mixing and producing our material..offering helpful insights and his own brand of humor. We are extremely excited!
The CD will debut in mid to late June,2011.

Virginia Splendore 1965-2011

An amazing musician in Virginia Splendore passed away earlier this month.
Virna was a Stickist of immense talent and artistry.Her music graced more than one episode of my Strada-Sphere Radio Podcast and her multi-instrumental collaborations with fellow Stickist Irene Orleansky were remarkable.Virna's wonderful spirit and soulful talent will be missed.

Been a long time since my last post!

Well, much and little has changed. Lindy Romez has relocated to the Tampa/St. Petersburg area. Sol Y Mar has gigged twice since the move.She is currently working on material for a new album entitled "Latina" and will be calling upon us when the recording stage hits.We will be ready!

Jupiter Groove is on a short term hiatus from gigging as we regroup and assess the upcoming recording sessions for our album. Stay tuned for more on that!

Multi instrumentalist and good friend Jeremy Birdsall and myself are looking to put together a live experimental project consisting of every instrument that either of us can play (or wanna play). That long list includes...

Mario Ticlea,my old bandmate from Quasitone,has suggested that he and I do an ambient, meditative guitar and Native American Flute project.
I agree!
Mario will be working on some soundscapes while I will work on flute parts and possibly some Stick® as well.
Mario's idea is to sell the CD to raise awareness for Native American issues across the American Continent.I will post our progress as hese ideas flesh themselves out.

New music from an old friend..

Some of you may recall my work with multi media/musician Radek Kordasiewicz. Radek and I formed an ambient experimental project about 4 yrs ago called Ollin. Our music was created and shared via the internet...a truly international and cybernetic union.We released a single "Ocean Wave",an EP ("La Mort en ce Jardin" no longer available), and a full album of extremely experimental music utilizing synths,guitar,bass,Chapman Stick,saxophone,percussion,and vocal sounds entitled "Never Forget" which added the talents of Marco Rodi (bass) and Janusz Kruszelnicki (saxophone).
after the release of "Never Forget",Radek commenced work on the next Ollin project.At that time,my musical endeavors began to escalate here stateside with Quasitone,Lindy & Sol Y Mar,and my solo projects.As a result, I withdrew my collaborations with Radek on a high note. radek forged ahead enlisting the talenst of US drummer Reed Hayes (former bandmate of mine in Quasitone),guitarist Bill forth,vocalist Troy South Gate,and guest guitarist Sean Gahnam. The result is the new full length Ollin album, "The Opium Trail".
Ollin releases all of it's music via the internet,free of charge,resplendent with spectacular artwork and top notch audio fidelity

It was recently brought to our attention that the Sept 13th Lindy Romez & Sol Y Mar concert at The White House in Orlando had been sketched by local artist Thomas Thorspecken.
Thomas maintains a blog where his goal is to document Orlando culture through sketches that he will upload daily. Numerous subjects and events from fundraisers,sports,concerts,plays,and daily living are captured by "Thors" mighty pen and pencil renderings.

Hello folks!
We just received the 5 tracks that were recorded at The Parsonage in Gibsonton,FL. last weekend.These are not mastered as of yet but they sound fantastic nonetheless!
4 of the tunes are Lindy Romez originals and have been previously released on Lindy's "New Day" CD but these are all new recordings featuring Ralph Gray on percussion,Gary Tompkins on guitar and synth guitar,myself on bass,Stick,and Native American Flute.
The only new tune is "Honor My Father and Yours" which is a tune penned by Gary and myself which features the Native American Flute and a very somber rendition of "Taps" by Lindy.
These tracks will be posted to Lindy's My Space Page as soon as the mastering is complete.
Just a reminder that Lindy Romez & Sol Y Mar will be performing at the Boom and Bash Festival to benefit the Shriners Children's Hospital.

Blitz Water CD news

Final mastering for the Blitz Water debut album "Mindset" is currently in the works! Some of the artwork has been finished and promotion/distribution deals are in the works.
I contribute bass to almost 1/2 of the tracks as I joined the project mid-stream in 2008.The CD is a mix of fusion,world,Latin,progressive,and the undefinable.The works were written by father/son duo Omar Blanco (guitars) and Manny Blanco (keys/synths) who co-founded the group and later enlisted the drumming and recording talents of George Salazar.Once the CD is out,we will begin working on new material for subsequent releases.

Ah,the Olafest has come and gone,the Bar at the Station gig is now a distant memory (but preserved on DVD courtesy of my friend Drew Leblanc),Alvon at WMNF continues to play my music and summer is around the corner (Hey I knowmbut I live in Florida man!).
So what's next? Well I am glad ya asked!

George Salazar,Manny Blanco,Omar Blanco,and myself,collectively known as Blitz Water,will be providing some music for an upcoming indie film soon to be released.As more info comes my way I will share it with you all.

Thank you to all who came out to the show at The Station last night.We had a great turn out.
I would like to extend my gratitude to Dan Rodriguez and the boys from Jupiter Groove for allowing me to play between sets. I also wanna give kudos to Mechanical MAyhem for a fine show and sexy grooves.keep it up!
I had a great time but must admit that I was not feelin' 100%. Had a headache,a bit of nausea,and felt a lil' dizzy as well. I hope that you enjoyed the 3 tunes I played for ya.I had a lot of great comments after the performance and got to chat with a few folks about the Stick and my basses.Seems that the comments were geared more towards the music and playing than the Stick's strange appearance.Don't get me wrong! I love to talk about the Stick's unique position in the world of music but it is also refreshing to know that people can look beyond the "special effects" and appreciate "the story".

Seems as though the CD release party was a hit! The Status Lounge which graciously hosted the party,provided us with a great setting and an accommodating staff.The audience enjoyed themselves,Lindy sold CDs,signed autographs,got pics with fans,ad played her heart out.The rest of the guys,Gary,Johnny,Hector,and myself,had a great time.The band was tight,we all got to express ourselves,and the energy onstage was high.I will post pics as soon as I get them!

Recorded a short solo on the bass this past week trying out Logic Pro and getting my feet wet.You can hear Billy Sheehan's influence in this one! Billy was one of my earliest bass heroes back when I was 1st starting out on the bass and heavily into metal!

I recorded this using my 4 string Ibanez BTB loded with DR Reds,A MacBook Pro,Fast Track USB,and Apple's Logic Studio®.I was checkin' out Logic's plugins and decided to add some in post.Still gettin' used to Logic's layout and way of doing things,but I am surely excited about this powerful recording/performance suite.

New BLANCO music....

Manny,Omar,George and myself have laid down another world fusion tune.
"Indus" was penned by the talented father/son duo of Manny and Omar Blanco.It has a distinct Mid-Eastern vibe with a nice sitar motif.I played my fretless 5 string on this one.The tune (like all others posted here by BLANCO) is basically a scratch track that we will be refining in the weeks to come.So,sonically it needs some tweaks and there are further orchestrations to be added later.Please enjoy and leave me a comment!

BLANCO. That is Omar and Manny's last name. In fact,I am calling the band "BLANCO" until we can figure out a name.We managed to record a new tune called "Santos Mangu" this past Sunday.It is a Latin based tune (merengue/salsa) that will eventually have some vocals added.It is currently in the post production phase and I am not sure when it will be posted.
